This is a vital information gathering effort designed to empower beneficiaries and homestead associations on the island of Maui by giving individual beneficiaries an opportunity and a voice to recommend positive changes to the existing Hawaiian home lands commission and its management practices within DHHL. The goal is to ho'ohui ~ to connect with our community rather than simply collecting and reporting more data about the challenges of the waitlist or highlighting the existing administrative, financial and political obstacles that Hawaiian home lands beneficiaries face. This project seeks change agents to provide input about how the existing process could be improved to create a roadmap for increasing the role of homestead associations in activities
traditionally administered solely by DHHL and to develop an active, sustainable, and replicable collaborative partnership between homestead associations on Maui and DHHL that will produce measurable results, further engage and enhance accountability to ALL beneficiaries. The Maui Beneficiary Ho'ohui Project is sponsored by Pa’upena CDC in partnership with various Valley Isle homestead associations and has been partially funded by a generous grant from Enterprise Community Partners.
